Exclusive: Angela Bassett, Teyana Taylor, Kam Patterson in Talks to Join Kevin Hart's Netflix Comedy '72 Hours'
Plus, a casting scoop about Taylor Sheridan's new movie 'F.A.S.T.,' a new release date for 'The Legend of Zelda,' and Channing Tatum hops on a motorcycle with Brad Pitt.

Happy-ish Monday, folks!
It was a wild weekend here in Los Angeles, where angry citizens offered a righteous response to ICE’s ongoing bullshit and President Trump’s completely unnecessary decision to send in the National Guard. Kudos to fellow entertainment reporter Ben Fritz for braving the chaos to report from the middle of the action.
Meanwhile, I braved the fallout from my review of the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which underperformed this weekend with a $25 million opening at the domestic box office. I certainly wasn’t rooting for this movie to fail, but I was glad that it did, as I think Lionsgate has misplaced confidence in “the world of John Wick” and may not want to go all-in on that action franchise.
Yes, John Wick: Chapter 4 was the highest-grossing entry, but it was also the worst film of the series, and Lionsgate seemed to learn all the wrong lessons from its success. My disappointment with the film certainly had nothing to do with Ana de Armas being Latinx, but people will say anything online if it serves their bullshit narrative.
I’m not exactly beating the drum for Universal’s live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, which is poised to open to $100 million domestically, as it turns out that general audiences don’t care that I proudly skipped the chance to see it at CinemaCon.
Speaking of bullshit narratives, the public saga of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni continues, as Lively scored a big win with a federal judge tossing out Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuits against Lively and the New York Times for extortion and defamation. Hopefully, Lively will now drop her own suit and move on with her life so that we can all move on with our lives, but something tells me that isn’t likely to happen. There’s been so much animosity that she may just go for the kill and take this thing all the way, no matter how bad it makes her look in the public eye.
On a lighter note, this weekend, I watched all of Owen Wilson’s charming new Apple TV+ series Stick, plus Lex Ortega’s extreme Mexican serial killer movie Atroz from 2015 — it’s strictly for sickos like me — and Danny Turkiewicz’s indie comedy Stealing Pulp Fiction starring SNL alum Jon Rudnitsky, Karan Soni, Cazzie David, and Jason Alexander. The latter film hits select theaters and VOD on June 27.
Tonight, you’ll read a pair of scoops about who is joining Kevin Hart in the Netflix comedy 72 Hours, and who is joining Brandon Sklenar in Taylor Sheridan’s action thriller F.A.S.T.
There are also items about the latest additions to the cast of HBO’s Harry Potter series, Brad Pitt teaming up with Channing Tatum, Emily Mortimer’s directorial debut at A24, The Legend of Zelda’s new release date, Lionsgate’s latest acquisition, Viola Davis’ new thriller, and the first look at Paul Greengrass’ Apple TV+ drama The Lost Bus starring Matthew McConaughey.
