The Toronto Diaries: Sebastian Stan & Jeremy Strong Make Movies Great Again in 'The Apprentice'
Plus, my thoughts on Steven Soderbergh's 'Presence' and George Clooney courting Edward Berger for 'Ocean's 14.'
Happy Friday, everyone!
I’m writing from the Toronto International Film Festival, where I saw four movies yesterday… and would’ve seen a fifth if it wasn’t for that damn thing called “dinner.” I also caught two more movies this morning because I’m a glutton for cinematic punishment.
I know I owe you a couple of newsletters from this week, and I will be filing this weekend from TIFF, so keep your eyes peeled!
In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about the much-hyped Donald Trump movie The Apprentice, Steven Soderbergh’s new ghost story Presence, and the crime comedy Riff Raff featuring Bill Murray and Pete Davidson as gangsters.
There are also items about George Clooney and Brad Pitt courting Edward Berger (Conclave) to direct Ocean’s 14, Hollywood’s ongoing obsession with true-crime TV shows, Keke Palmer starring in a series remake of one of my favorite Tom Hanks movies, a new crime film from James Bond director Cary Fukunaga starring two guys who have been rumored to be the next Bond, and a full list of what Hollywood’s labor leaders earned last year. Plus, my thoughts on the trailer for Taylor Sheridan’s new Paramount+ series Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore.
