Is Sam Mendes Planning to Release All Four of His Beatles Movies on the Same Day?
Plus, Kyle Allen is bringing a new comic book titled 'Fiberglass' to Comic-Con, and awards season continues to take shape.

Happy Wednesday, everyone! You’ve made it more than halfway through the work week… unless you’re headed to Comic-Con, in which case, the work may never end for you.
An IMPORTANT PROGRAMMING NOTE before we begin — tomorrow afternoon, you may get an email from me that looks a little different. It is an ad — the first from this little newsletter. Please click on it, I beg of you. That way, I can afford to continue bringing you this labor of love.
With that out of the way… last night, I rented the Indian action movie Kill on VOD, and it was OK — a little overhyped by critics (surprise, surprise). I liked its energy, and it certainly had a few cool kills — what would a movie titled Kill be without those? — but the action was a little too repetitive, the story too generic, and the film was 15 minutes too long. Let’s just say that it was closer to Monkey Man than The Raid.
After that, I watched the season finale of Presumed Innocent, and I hate to say it, but I thought that the show failed to stick the landing. I loved this series, which had me checking Apple’s press app every day while I waited for the finale to drop, but the ultimate explanation of the crime was both disappointing and tough to buy, as it left me with even more questions.
I understand wanting to change the ending from the 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford, but surely writer David E. Kelley could’ve done better than this, no? It wasn’t so much a twist as it was a poorly concocted reveal, so unfortunately, as great as Jake Gyllenhaal’s closing argument was (and Peter Sarsgaard’s too, for that matter), I’m afraid this series goes into the books with an asterisk on it. Oh, well…
In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about Sam Mendes’ possible release plan for his four Beatles movies, a new comic book that rising star Kyle Allen is launching at Comic-Con, and the hot Chris Hemsworth movie that Apple just landed following a competitive auction. Plus, my thoughts on Searchlight’s trailer for A Complete Unknown starring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, and how it may not be the only movie to crash awards season a little late.
