Blumhouse: The Eye-Popping Price for 'Saw,' the Female Lead of 'Insidious 6,' and Jason Blum’s Big Mistake
Plus, Mikey Madison replaces Sydney Sweeney in an A24 movie, Nicole Kidman lines up another new streaming series, and why it was a very good week for Issa Rae.

It’s Wednesday evening, and the NBA Finals are finally upon us tomorrow night.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are heavy favorites against the Indiana Pacers, but the truth is that we’re all winners, as none of us has to hear any more nonsense from fans of the New York Knicks, who promptly fired their head coach this week on the heels of their most successful season in 25 years. Keep on being you, James Dolan!
Yesterday, I submitted my application to cover the Toronto International Film Festival, which will open with the documentary John Candy: I Like Me from director Colin Hanks and producer Ryan Reynolds.
I grew up watching Candy’s movies and remember being devastated as a 10-year-old boy when Candy died of a heart attack in 1994. He was just 43 years old and still in the prime of his career. I can’t wait to see this documentary, which is expected to capture what the Canadian everyman was like off-camera.
Today, the Hollywood Reporter mentioned what I told you months ago — Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck are poised to replace Kathleen Kennedy atop Lucasfilm whenever she decides to step down. THR thinks she’ll leave after Bob Iger steps down as the CEO of Disney, and not a moment before, though the truth is that she’s been trying to step down for a while now; she just wanted to get Star Wars better positioned for the future before doing so.
Oh, and one last note before we get started — fuck Pete Hegseth.
Tonight, you’ll read about Blumhouse, including what it paid for a stake in the Saw franchise, who will direct its Ma sequel, who the company is out to for the female lead in Insidious 6, how its Black Phone sequel looks, and the big mistake that Jason Blum made today.
There are also items about Mikey Madison replacing Sydney Sweeney in an A24 movie, a Monster High movie in the works at Mattel, another Nicole Kidman series, the new Unabomber, and why it was a very good week for Issa Rae.
