Exclusive: Charlie Kaufman to Write Bennett Miller’s New Movie — the Director’s First Since 'Foxcatcher'
Plus, which comedians should the Academy hire to host the Oscars besides Chris Rock and John Mulaney, and what might Christopher Nolan's next movie be about?
Happy Tuesday, folks!
Today, I suffered through a couple of bad genre flicks that streamers unleashed upon unsuspecting audiences — Max’s Caddo Lake and Hulu’s Mr. Crockett — and tonight, I’m off to see Smile 2.
I was a big fan of the first film from director Parker Finn — personally, I thought Smile was better than Barbarian — so I’ve been looking forward to this sequel, which stars Naomi Scott and a pretty solid supporting cast for this kind of thing. I’ll be back with a review later this week, in case you want to hold off on buying those tickets.
Tonight, I reveal what Charlie Kaufman has been busy working on of late, and I also weigh in on which comedians the Academy should consider hiring to host the Oscars after Kevin Hart complained that the Dolby Theater (now under new ownership) is where comedy goes to die.
There are also items about the rumored focus of Christopher Nolan’s next movie, the uncertainty surrounding Greta Gerwig’s Narnia project, Alana Haim’s big day, Alfred Hitchcock’s casting in Season 3 of Monster, and a new Pride and Prejudice series that’s in the works at Netflix. Plus, I weigh in on Neon’s teaser for Oz Perkins’ new film The Monkey.
