Happy Tuesday, folks!
This weekend, I rewatched Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky, which features a really wonderful performance from Tom Cruise that doesn’t get talked about enough. Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz are fantastic as well, but Cruise simply delivers a go-for-broke movie star turn, and in some ways, Vanilla Sky feels like a precursor to his daring work in Digger.
Meanwhile, I sure hope that Crowe gets to make his Joni Mitchell movie. Sure, Crowe has been in something of a slump, but he’s a great observer and chronicler of people, and he deserves an opportunity to make his passion project. His friendship with Mitchell goes way back, as her artwork is displayed in Vanilla Sky, in which Crowe uses Cruz’s lips to call her a genius.
I also checked out magician/mentalist Siegfried Tieber at the W Hotel in Hollywood and caught a screening of The Mandalorian & Grogu in between binge-watching Season 2 screeners for The Agency.
