On Thursday night, I finished watching HBO’s upcoming crime drama Task, which I started the night before. I’m embargoed until Aug. 28, but keep an eye out for my review of the seven-episode series, which stars Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, and hails from Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby.

Last night, I began watching Jessica Chastain’s new Apple TV+ series The Savant, which also remains under embargo until late September. Come back then for my verdict.

Also, I must apologize for not having a Weapons review ready for you guys, but I’m not seeing the movie until later tonight. I’ve heard pretty mixed things, to be honest, but I’m keeping the faith and still have high hopes for the elevated horror movie from Barbarian helmer Zach Cregger. His latest seems to be overperforming at the domestic box office, where $45 million is evidently within reach thanks to strong word-of-mouth.

Tonight, you’ll read a hot casting scoop about Paul Greengrass’ next movie with Andrew Garfield rather than a long screed about the Searchlight publicist who lost all credibility with me on Friday, and the latest non-denial denial from DC boss James Gunn, whose Trumpian social media shtick (deny, deny, deny!) is getting old, quite frankly. I cut both of those items from tonight’s newsletter in an effort to take the high road — though I still have access to the low road, just try me!
