Hot Rumor: Eddie Murphy Eyes Return to Television in New Peacock Series From Matthew Weiner, 101 Studios

Happy Friday, folks!

Not much time for a big wind-up this evening, as I’m off to a fancy soiree — and available for your private function, too!

Last night, I saw Macon Blair’s new comedy Idiots, which was another letdown, though I probably should’ve seen this coming, given that the film was released during the last week of August. Blair wastes decent performances from his three leads — Dave Franco, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Mason Thames — because he doesn’t know what kind of movie he’s making. When Thames’ character bites a woman and reveals himself to be an actually bad person, the movie stops being fun and instead becomes mean-spirited. I didn’t care for the ending, either, which felt like it was ripped out of another movie altogether.

I really wanted to like Idiots, but alas, I’m not an idiot, myself. I think. Opinions may vary on that one!

Elsewhere, there’s a movie in the works about the creation of the Hooters “restaurant” chain, and I use the term “restaurant” lightly. Frankly, this is a genius idea, and I’m shocked it took people this long to think of it following the success of movies such as Air and Blackberry. This is an easy lay-up as far as movie concepts go — now let’s see if the producers can secure a release in IMAX and other PLF theaters. Better yet, 4DX!

On that note, this weekend, I plan to check out Robert De Niro’s new thriller The Whisper Man on Netflix. Reviews have been mixed, but I dug the book and was a big fan of the director’s first film, Coming Home in the Dark.

And speaking of whispers, I’ve got a hot rumor to share tonight about Eddie Murphy, who may be heading back to television from the sound of it.
