'For Your Consideration': Netflix's 'Emilia Pérez' and Neon's 'Anora' Look Like Locks for Best Picture Nods

Scott Mantz, Perri Nemiroff, and I survey the awards season landscape, where Tim Fehlbaum's thriller 'September 5' is coming on strong.

Happy Tuesday, folks! Season 7 of For Your Consideration — Hollywood’s #1 awards-themed talk show — is back in full swing, with new episodes dropping every week on Perri Nemiroff’s YouTube channel.

KTLA’s Scott Mantz hosts the show, and on Friday, the three of us discussed the Best Picture race now that we’ve had a chance to see many of the top contenders at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

There are still a bunch of contenders that no one has seen, from Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2 and Robert ZemeckisHere to Robert EggersNosferatu and Steve McQueen’s Blitz, so we’ll revisit this list several times over the next six months ahead of Oscar Sunday.

This week’s episode climaxes with a battle between Scott and Perri as they respectively advocate on behalf of September 5 and The Substance for our final slot. Even though I was the deciding vote, somehow, I didn’t get my way (you know how much I hate that), so be sure to stick around through the end of the episode to watch my head explode.

As for our Current Predictions, they include Anora, Blitz, The Brutalist, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Gladiator 2, A Real Pain, Sing Sing, and… well, that would be a spoiler, so you’ll just have to watch the episode below and see for yourself.

We have ambitious plans for FYC this season, as we’d like to incorporate some interviews into the show, and possibly host some roundtables as well. So if you represent crafts contenders in the below-the-line categories, or you represent documentaries, animated movies, or international features, please reach out, as we’d love to work with you, and our advertising rates are a bargain considering our collective reach across social media.

I’ll also be emailing each episode of FYC directly into voters’ inboxes (sans paywall). Yes, a bunch of real awards voters read this newsletter. Can you believe it?

Be sure to like the video and subscribe to Perri’s YouTube channel once you’re over there, and feel free to leave a comment as well, as we welcome constructive feedback. I may even feature select comments in this newsletter — especially if they’re from the Hollywood community, which is also welcome to email me.

Watch the latest episode below, and keep your eyes peeled for our next episode, which will cover the Best Director race. Until then, FYC-ya later!
