Kathryn Bigelow’s Nuclear Bomb Movie Is a Dud, But Bradley Cooper’s Marital Dramedy With Will Arnett Is a Winner

Plus, Jim Carrey will star in WB's 'Jetsons' movie, Richard Ramirez is getting his own Peacock series, and a look at the soundtrack for Josh Boone's new film 'Regretting You.'

Happy Wednesday, folks!

There’s a showdown brewing at the box office this weekend between Blumhouse’s Black Phone 2, which brings back Ethan Hawke as the Grabber, and Aziz Ansari’s Lionsgate comedy Good Fortune, which pairs him with an angelic Keanu Reeves and a hedonistic Seth Rogen. I expect the Black Phone sequel to come out on top, for while Blumhouse has struggled this year, I expected horror fans to answer this call.

And speaking of box office, expect a #1 opening for Josh Boone’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You next weekend. Unless Black Phone 2 overperforms this weekend and has a strong hold, I think Regretting You will comfortably win the weekend over awards contenders like Bugonia and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, both of which are receiving limited debuts from their distributors.

Today, Universal announced that the Daniels’ event movie will hit theaters on Nov. 19, 2027 — the Friday before Thanksgiving. It was originally slated for next June. Details of the film remain as mysterious as the top-secret project that Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Terry Rossio is reportedly developing with the social media maestro Mr. Beast.

Is that blood in the water I smell?

That tasty little nugget was revealed in a Deadline story about Miramax dropping 7-figures on a pitch from Rossio titled London Ghost Tour that comes with Josh Cooley (Transformers One) attached to direct.

Tonight, you’ll read my reviews of Kathryn Bigelow’s nuclear bomb thriller A House of Dynamite, which detonates on Netflix next week, as well as Bradley Cooper’s marital dramedy Is This Thing On?, which has been flying under the radar this awards season, but may not for much longer.

There are also items about the somewhat surprising lead of WB’s new live-action Jetsons movie, the latest serial killer getting the scripted series treatment from a streamer, a Bela Lugosi biopic from Leonardo DiCaprio, and the latest casting news on Sony’s Beatles movie, as well as the studio’s follow-up to The Social Network. Plus, a look at the trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley — two names that should get the kiddos excited, ha!
