What Should Jordan Peele Do Next? Well, Warner Bros. Has All the Answers These Days...

Plus, Martin Scorsese is working with Leo DiCaprio again, Christopher Nolan takes over as DGA president, a trio of new Netflix projects, and a trailer from a galaxy far, far away...

Happy Tuesday, folks!

I can’t tell you what I watched last night, nor can I weigh in on Season 2 of Nobody Wants This just yet, but I will reveal that I rewatched the 1996 Robert De Niro-Wesley Snipes thriller The Fan over the weekend, and that movie is ripe for a remake. It has two juicy lead roles, and I know no one is thinking about sports-themed genre movies right now in the wake of Him — more on that below — but I think the right take could get audiences excited.

Tonight, Jimmy Kimmel returns to the air, just as I knew he would. Sure, he’s still “being censored” in 25% of the country thanks to Nexstar and Sinclair, who have made the decision that their audience isn’t interested in what Kimmel has to say, though I predict that those companies will fold soon enough — especially if Disney threatens to withhold the NFL or other highly-watched programming.

As I wrote last week, I think this suspension will prove to be the best thing that has ever happened to Jimmy Kimmel, who became a hero of the left and a free speech icon overnight. I can’t wait to see the ratings he pulls tonight — they’re going to be through the roof. That’s why I maintain that Disney/ABC was right to take him off the air for a few nights while tempers cooled (even though they haven’t).

Apple is doing the same thing right now with The Savant, and you know what? I get it! This isn’t a case of censorship — I’d be shocked if Donald Trump has ever heard of The Savant — it’s a case of Apple reading the room and opting to do what’s best for Apple.

I’ve seen all of The Savant, and I’ll talk more about it in a few days, but seeing as how it involves domestic terrorism — it’s not some serial killer show — perhaps now isn’t the best time to release it? How many times have we seen networks delay TV shows due to sensitive circumstances? I’d say the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which is still raw in the minds of many, qualifies as such a circumstance.

Tonight, you’ll read my thoughts on Jordan Peele’s rough year, as well as my career advice for the floundering filmmaker.

I also offer my thoughts on Martin Scorsese’s new movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Nolan taking over as DGA president, a Jessica Chastain-Octavia Spencer reunion, a trio of new Netflix projects, the latest additions to Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil and Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man movie, plus a deep dive on the trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu.
