Exclusive: Keanu Reeves Plays the Villain in Weezer’s Mystery Movie; Cast and Directors Revealed
Plus, Amazon MGM nabs the 'Highlander' reboot and a 'Pacific Rim' origin series, while Universal pairs Glen Powell with Judd Apatow and releases a teaser for horror film 'Him.'

Happy Friday, folks!
Last night in Tokyo, Lucasfilm announced that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie starring Ryan Gosling will be titled Star Wars: Starfighter, which I kind of love. The film will hit theaters on May 28, 2027, timed to the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie. Production will start this fall, so expect casting announcements this summer.
Of course, Disney is also slated to release Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027, but I’d be surprised if the studio released two mega-movies in three weeks. There’s nothing official yet, but don’t be surprised if Secret Wars ends up being delayed.
Lucasfilm also revealed that an animated series centered around Darth Maul will hit Disney+ next year, with my fellow Schmoedown brethren Sam Witwer voicing the villainous character. Congrats to Witwer, who loves this franchise as much as anyone I know.
I know Ryan Coogler’s Sinners comes out this weekend, and I’ll be checking it out on Saturday night, but if you’re looking for something to watch at home, and you’re a fan of true-crime documentaries, I stayed up late last night watching Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror on Netflix, and found it to be a powerful, gripping film from director Greg Tillman. It’s the latest win for producers William Green, Aaron Ginsburg, and Tiller Russell, who have really figured out this format, and at 80 minutes, it’s a quick watch, too.
Today, I’ve got a hot scoop about the mysterious Weezer movie that’ll make you go “Whoa!”
There are also items about the Highlander remake, a Pacific Rim series, a Clueless follow-up, a reunion between Batman and Catwoman, the latest Netflix movies from Jennifer Lopez and Peter Berg, Nicholas Hoult’s new co-star, Genndy Tartakovsky’s new animated movie, and a pair of projects starring Giancarlo Esposito. Plus, I offer my thoughts on the trailer for Him, the latest horror movie from producer Jordan Peele.
