Exclusive: 'Rope' Remake in the Works From 'The Imitation Game' Director Morten Tyldum & Davis Entertainment

Plus, a look at the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay races, and my thoughts on 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle' remake starring Maika Monroe.

Happy Thursday, folks!

Last night, I watched the first episode of Cross (under embargo!) before showing a friend of mine The Professional, which is very nearly a perfect movie. I mean, Jean Reno, Natalie Portman, Gary Oldman… “everyone” is incredible in this film. Say what you will about Luc Besson, but he was throwing heat back in the ‘90s…

Tonight, I might just have to rewatch The Hand That Rocks the Cradle after today’s news, which you can read about below. This weekend, I look forward to catching up with Apartment 7A and The Wild Robot, as I was unable to make Monday night’s press screening.

I’d also encourage you to go out and see Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis in theaters, and if you live in New York or Los Angeles, Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night is also opening in limited release, and I had a blast with that one.

In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about who I believe is actually directing the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, as well as my Oscar nomination predictions for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay.

There are also stories about Maika Monroe’s new thriller, Mike Faist teaming up with Florence Pugh, Barbra Streisand’s new documentary, and the latest episode of The Hot Mic.
