What Is Scott Stuber's Legacy at Netflix After He Helped Lead the Streaming Revolution?

It was another rainy Monday here in Los Angeles, so if you didn’t catch a cold this weekend, just wait for the Sundance crowd to return from Park City this week!

This weekend, I rewatched two Best Picture winners — Crash and The Hurt Locker — both of which still hold up. Sure, I could see Crash’s flaws a bit more clearly this time around, but its raw power remains undeniable, as it still has a handful of gut-wrenching scenes that had me shaking. Likewise, there’s a 15-20 minute stretch towards the end of The Hurt Locker where the movie gets a little sidetracked, but god damn is the rest of it great — just pure adrenaline. And Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie are so good together, years before either joined the MCU.

I also watched the NFL Playoffs this weekend (Go, Lions!), enjoyed Jacob Elordi’s episode of Saturday Night Live, and circled back to check out Rose Glass’ 2019 film Saint Maud starring Morfydd Clark. The reviews for Glass’ new Sundance movie, Love Lies Bleeding, convinced me to watch her prior film, and I’m glad I did, because it was, indeed, better than I thought it would be.

I’m working on some cool stuff for this week, but expect an Oscar-heavy day tomorrow, as the nominations will be announced bright and early in the morning (remind me why the Academy insists on this barbaric ritual). I’ll be taping a live episode of For Your Consideration alongside Scott Mantz and Perri Nemiroff at 8 a.m. PT so tune in and join the conversation!
