Why 'Sinners' Is Doing Better Than I Thought at the Box Office, and Bad News for Fans of Arclight Hollywood

Plus, Alex Garland returns to A24, Miles Teller talks to a magical possum, and Margaret Qualley finds the love of her life with a little help from Ryan Gosling.

Happy Tuesday night, gang!

Last night, I began binge-watching Season 4 of Hacks, which is as sharp as ever, and today, I caught a screening of a Cannes movie that I had no idea was heading to Cannes.

I’ve got an interesting scoop brewing for tomorrow, and like I said, I promise to write about President Trump’s proposed tariffs soon, but tonight, I want to talk about the box office performance around Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, and why many box office reporters may need to double-check their math, as they’ve likely been using a faulty formula.

I also dive into the curious case of Arclight Hollywood, which, if you’ll recall, was supposed to reopen in Q2 of this year, though it doesn’t look like it’ll reopen anytime soon — unless you’ve got Amazon money, of course.

There are also items about Alex Garland returning to A24 (yup!), a new writer on DC’s Clayface movie (yup!), Miles Teller selling his soul to a possum, Margaret Qualley finding the love of her life, and my thoughts on the trailer for Hulu’s upcoming comedy Summer of 69 starring SNL’s Chloe Fineman.
