The Anti-'Social Network': Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg?
Plus, reviews of 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' and 'The Naked Gun,' and my thoughts on the new James Bond writer, the new Ocean's director, and A24's trailer for 'Eternity.'

Happy Thursday night, folks!
Well, as we all knew it would be, Happy Gilmore 2 was a huge hit on Netflix, where it racked up 46.7 million views in its first weekend on the service. A hole-in-one, as they say.
Did we think everyone scheduled their weekend around the release of Roma or Killers of the Flower Moon? Happy Gilmore 2 was appointment viewing around the world. I just wish it were better, as it felt pretty damn lazy to me.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is having a great year thanks to Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, F1, Superman, and we’ll likely be able to add Weapons to that list next weekend, but the studio’s motion picture group was still forced to lay off 10 percent of its workers — approximately 1,000 people, which is a pretty significant number.
David Zaslav will continue to chip away at Warner Bros. until it’s slim enough for another studio to buy it, and then… that’s all, folks! With all the M&A moves we’ll see over the next few years, it’ll be a wonder if James Gunn gets to execute his 10-year plan at DC.
On the bright side of the ledger, love is in the air, as The Naked Gun stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson have confirmed dating rumors — he’s tall, rich, accented, and he’s rumored to be hung like a moose, so what’s not to like, right?
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas appear to be “dating,” as do singer Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada. I’m adding all of them to my Valentine’s list.
Elsewhere, ID Public Relations sent out a list of its clients as of July 25, and the document revealed that Shane Black’s new movie Play Dirty will debut on Prime Video on Oct. 1, just in case you’re wondering where I got that little nugget from. Just three days later, on Oct. 4, we’ll get the Season 51 premiere of Saturday Night Live, though NBC has yet to announce a host, just as Lorne Michaels has yet to announce his successor.
Finally, President Donald Trump is weighing pardons for Sean ‘Diddy' Combs and Ghislane Maxwell, because we are living in The Upside-Down, where nothing makes sense. At least Shannon Sharpe is out at ESPN after settling a lawsuit with a young woman who accused him of sexual assault.
Elsewhere on social media, there are apparently controversies involving Sydney Sweeney doing an ad for American Eagle Jeans — it’s a Nazi dog-whistle, said one insane person, prompting the White House to issue a completely unnecessary statement — while Christopher Nolan has been accused of fueling “brutal repression” by filming in Occupied Western Sahara. Nolan’s accusers have my sympathies, but I don’t even need to click on that headline to know that said issue is neither my business nor my concern.
As far as I’m concerned, great directors do whatever they’ve gotta do to make the best movie they can, and if some feelings are hurt in the process, so be it. That’s the cost of great art.
Tonight, you’ll read about the latest updates on The Social Network sequel, and why Jesse Eisenberg appears ready to sit this one out. I also have long overdue reviews of The Naked Gun, which opens tonight, and last weekend’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. How does the Marvel movie stack up compared to James Gunn’s Superman? Find out below…
Plus, there are items about the writer of the next James Bond movie, the new director on WB’s Ocean’s Eleven prequel, the star of Season 4 of Monster on Netflix, a Shohei Ohtani series at Starz, the sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding that’s in the works at Sony from a high-profile writer, the hot pitch from the director of Disney’s billion-dollar hit Lilo & Stitch, the star of Season 2 of Presumed Innocent, and my thoughts on A24’s trailer for Eternity starring Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller.
