,
Happy Thursday, folks!
Today, you received an email from me featuring an ad for the His Three Daughters trailer, so do me a favor and click on it, if you don’t mind. That way, I can afford to continue bringing you this labor of love. Thank you!
Last night, I watched the original 1990 movie version of Presumed Innocent starring Harrison Ford, which, naturally, offered a very similar story as the Apple TV+ series, though it was interesting to see the differences inherent in a two-hour film adaptation as opposed to a TV show that has 10 hours to unfold.
While I do think that the movie pulled off the twist ending with a bit more grace, I will say that the series was a much richer experience overall, though a big part of that, for me, may be because I think Jake Gyllenhaal is a much better actor than Ford. Don’t get me wrong, Harrison is the better Movie Star, but Gyllenhaal has a talent (my god… that closing argument!) that Ford simply does not possess — all due respect.
I’ve heard from a bunch of people who, like me, were a little let down by the Presumed Innocent finale, but my youngest brother loved it, so I suppose this thing was always bound to be divisive. You can’t please everyone…
In tonight’s newsletter, I suggest a marketing plan for James Gunn’s Superman, since DC won’t be hyping it at Comic-Con this week. I also have a little scoop about a hot new graphic novel from James’ brother, Sean Gunn, who plays Maxwell Lord in Superman. No Bits & Bobs section tonight, I’ll pick it up tomorrow…
