Exclusive: Taylor Russell in Talks to Join Jesse Plemons and Cole Escola in A24 Comedy 'Jonty'

Plus, Netflix rescues 'Torso,' Paramount revives the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise, Disney orders a 'Beauty and the Beast' spinoff, and Taika Waititi returns to Searchlight.

Well, it’s Wednesday, and what a week it has been, folks.

I apologize for this being the first newsletter of the week, but I found it very difficult to write on Monday in lieu of the different tragedies that happened this weekend.

Then, on Tuesday night, I saw Avatar: Fire and Ash, which, as you might imagine, took up a pretty big chunk of my evening. I plan to write about the sequel on Friday, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, tonight, I saw Ssssony’s new Anaconda movie, which is embargoed until next week. I’ve also been cruising through new episodes of Cross, which I won’t be able to write about until February, but as someone who has read every single one of James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, I’ve been unable to resist the siren song of those Season 2 screeners. Sorry!

I’ll be posting a tribute to the late, great Rob Reiner soon, as well as my thoughts about the Oscars moving to YouTube, and other industry issues, but for now, here’s a little A24 scoop to tide you over.

There are also items about the Paranormal Activity franchise, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast spinoff, a new thriller from producer Zach Cregger, Taika Waititi’s latest Searchlight project, Kurt Sutter’s new L.A. noir, Tomb Raider casting, and the first actor rumored to be checking into Season 4 of The White Lotus. Plus, a look at the teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi movie Disclosure Day.
