Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Exit Is Equivalent of the Luka Doncic Trade — All About Creating the Right Culture

Plus, Netflix's fluid theatrical strategy, Quentin Tarantino's 'other' new movie, and thoughts on Apple TV's teaser for Season 2 of its Idris Elba series 'Hijack.'

Happy Monday, folks!

Over the weekend, I watched Netflix’s new Italian-language serial killer series Il Mostro, which examines the fascinating, disturbing case of The Monster of Florence. It’s a pretty remarkable series, and not just because of the Monster, but because of the monstrosities committed by other characters in this series, which wallows in the ugliness of humanity. Stefano Sollima (ZeroZeroZero) offers a steady hand behind the camera, and the entire cast is excellent from top to bottom. Plus, I loved the grim score from Alessandro Cortini, who is best known for his work with Nine Inch Nails.

I tried watching the low-budget horror movie Traumatika, but I gave up after 10 minutes, and I can’t say I watched the indie comedy Bad Shabbos for much longer, but I did stick with The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake on Hulu, and I have to say, the second half was far better than the first. The first 30 minutes of this movie are pretty rough, but by the end, I came around on this film, largely thanks to the performances of its two leads, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Maika Monroe.

I’ll stop short of recommending The Hand That Rocks the Cradle reboot, as I think there are far better ways to spend your time — including watching the original on Hulu — but if you’re like me and you’ve already seen everything, or at least, most everything, then perhaps you’ll find this modern reboot to be a guilty pleasure, like I did.

Tonight’s top story is a deep dive on Taylor Sheridan’s move from Paramount to NBCUniversal, which I spent most of last week looking into… sort of. Details inside!

There are also a pair of items involving Quentin Tarantino, and a look at the trailer for Season 2 of Idris Elba’s Apple TV series Hijack, which returns in January.
