WB Puts a Ring on Timothée Chalamet; Jeremy Allen White to Play Bruce Springsteen in A24 Movie

Plus, Scott Derrickson will remake 'The Night of the Hunter' and Julia Roberts will star in Luca Guadagnino's 'After the Hunt.'

Happy Tuesday, folks!

Last night, I sent the newsletter pretty late (sorry!) and then sat down to a Jean-Claude Van Damme double-feature of Bloodsport followed by Kickboxer. I’ve been on a cheesy ‘80s action movie kick since seeing Road House last week, and last night’s doubleheader was three hours well spent.

I always liked JCVD, but I grew up on his ‘90s movies like Sudden Death (begging for a remake set at the Super Bowl) and Timecop, so I never really knew him as the screaming maniac with crazy eyes who he plays in both films. I preferred Bloodsport and the Kumite to Kickboxer, though I did appreciate Van Damme’s attempt at a brotherly bond with Dennis Alexio in the latter film.

Anyway… in tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about Timothée Chalamet’s first-look deal with Warner Bros.; Jeremy Allen White being cast as Bruce Springsteen; Julia Roberts teaming up with Luca Guadagnino; Kerry Washington doing a new TV series with fellow Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss; Scott Derrickson remaking a classic; Steve Kloves getting a big assignment at WB; Brett Goldstein joining another Apple TV+ comedy series; Ronna McDaniel getting the boot from both NBC News and CAA; and the return of Hollywood’s favorite bad boys, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
