D23 Rumors: Christopher Abbott, Adam Driver to Join 'X-Men'; Glen Powell to Star in Gaston Movie
Suzy Bemba is being eyed to play Storm in the MCU, and the internet is upset. Screw the internet, I say! Filmmakers need to trust their guts, not "data." Sorry, Will Gluck...

Happy Friday, folks!
Let’s see, where to begin? Well, for starters, Disney+ will not be moving forward with a live-action Power Rangers series.
I have no idea why that is, but part of me wonders if the studio has heard the same rumors I have about the Daniels’ untitled new movie — yes, the one with Matt Damon and Sandra Oh.
From what I hear, it’s basically a Power Rangers movie… without the name. It follows a young cast in color-coded costumes who team up to fight kaiju with the help of a superhero-esque character played by Damon, who has a Jarvis-like AI assistant played (not just voiced) by Oh. The wholly original movie has no official connection to Power Rangers, but I’m told it’s a pretty clear influence and that comparisons will definitely be made.
In other news, the internet had a meltdown over a Supergirl BTS video that WB put online yesterday. It showed director Craig Gillespie showing Jason Momoa a bunch of different looks of him as Lobo… with the help of AI. Naturally, people were horrified — because they have nothing better to do than overreact to pretty harmless headlines.
The idea that WB should be paying an artist or graphic designer to sit there and come up with 20 different looks is absurd. Who gives a shit? I hate AI; I don’t use it AT ALL to write this newsletter; and I don’t want to see AI actors or read AI books. But seriously, pick your battles, people! Meanwhile, why WB is paying some social media grunt to spend one more second uploading BTS Supergirl videos on YouTube is completely beyond me. The studio is just wasting more precious resources on an absolute stinkbomb of a movie — the lowest-grossing DC title since Catwoman. Just move on and don’t even mention it again.
And I have a right to say that… because I’m an American and I’m constitutionally protected by the First Amendment. Our founding fathers made it the First Amendment because it’s pretty fucking important. But not to Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor! She thinks the First Amendment shouldn’t protect assholes. Earth to Aunjanue — that’s literally who the First Amendment is designed to protect. Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. We can’t go around demanding that rights are stripped from people we don’t like or disagree with. I shouldn’t have to explain this to a 57-year-old artist.
Finally, there’s a brand new episode of FYC today, in which I discuss The Odyssey’s Oscar chances with my esteemed co-hosts Perri Nemiroff and Scott Mantz. We all think Christopher Nolan’s epic will be nominated for a different number of Oscars, so tune in to find out its awards floor and ceiling.
