Exclusive: Adam Sandler, Happy Madison Developing Art Heist Comedy at Netflix With 'The Batman' Producer
Plus, an update on Issa Rae's remake of 'Set It Off,' my thoughts on DC's 'Clayface,' and the latest additions to the 'Hunger Games' and 'Dune' franchises.

Happy Tuesday, folks!
Last night, my brother and I caught up with Dan Trachtenberg’s Hulu movie Predator: Killer of Killers, which was absolutely badass. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many graphic decapitations in an animated movie before. Hats off to Trachtenberg and my pals, producer Ben Rosenblatt and writer Micho Rutare, on a job bloody well done.
After that, I came home and watched Destry Allyn Spielberg’s feature directing debut, Please Don’t Feed the Children, which is under embargo for another couple of weeks until it debuts on Tubi at the end of the month. Michelle Dockery and Giancarlo Esposito lead the adult cast.
Today, the trades confirmed what I told you last night — that Glen Powell will star in an untitled firefighter movie from Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, and no, it has nothing to do with Backdraft.
Coincidentally, Kim Masters’ Monday night Puck dispatch centered around Howard and Brian Grazer’s production company, Imagine Entertainment, and mentioned that Howard’s next movie is shaping up to be an adaptation of Alone at Dawn.
Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz’s nonfiction book tells the heroic story of John Chapman, a member of the Air Force who sacrificed his life to save the lives of 23 comrades during the Afghan War, and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Though Chapman was killed in action while proudly serving his country, the movie sounds a little like Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor, and that sounds pretty damn good to me. We need more of those movies. I watch the end of Lone Survivor once a year because it rules, so here’s hoping Howard can make a movie that’s just as powerful and inspiring.
Tonight, you’ll read a couple of interesting development scoops — one about Adam Sandler, the other about Issa Rae’s long-gestating remake of Set It Off.
There are also items about DC’s Clayface movie, another project from producer Matt Reeves, a new shark movie in the works at Amazon, a sequel to Harold & Kumar, Netflix’s reboot of Land of the Lost, Nikki Glaser’s first screenplay, and the latest additions to the Hunger Games and Dune franchises. Plus, some quick thoughts on the trailer for Eric Bana’s new Netflix series, Untamed.
